Mabuhay!

In this post I would like to share about my teaching practice experience in the Laboratory School of ISAT U.

The first week

I started doing the observations in Ms. Emi's classes, which are grade 7 Sampagita and Ilang-ilang, and grade 9 Falcon on January, 23rd 2018. I observed the teaching method use by the teacher.

For the classes that she teaches, it seemed to be more like a cooperative and collaborative learning, where the students are encouraged to be more active and to be the center of the learning itself.

A day before, I had witnessed students' drama performances in the Mini Theater of the school. For the Grade 7, each of the classes were divided into three groups. They were given a story from Philippines Literature. the story was about a girl named Kikai who acted like she forgot how to be a Philippine just because she had just been in New York for a years. For the Grade 9 Falcon, they perform a story from Anglo-American Literature. I could say that the students were performing the drama greatly.

I could tell that they had done a lot of efforts to get on stage. Despite of the black spots that they might have, what I believe, the most important thing in performing a literature is that the story can be understood and the lessons can go across to the audience. And that was what they did, when every time I recall the memory, there is a smile blooming on my face.

Here is a clip of one of the student's group video.

Just like what I shared in my earlier post before, that the materials taught in school are mostly about literature. Based on my observation, the points of English subject are not only for the language used for daily communication but also to communicate and share values, understanding, respect, love, and humanity. That is why in every classes that I observed the teacher always either give or ask the students to synthesize the lesson to the daily lives and motivate to always build common-sense to ourselves and toward others.
