The Week 4

In the last week of the SEA Teacher Program, The school was giving me a chance to teach other classes of Mrs.Hilda Darocca, the 8th grade of Malove and  Nara, and Mrs Jeiza J. Napone, the 10th grade of Diamond and Gold, and the 11th grade for writing class. Uswa and I took all the English Classes from the grade 7 till the grade 11. We divided the schedule and classes for teaching so that we finally achieved the requirement of 20 hours of teaching practice.

There were so many moments of practice teaching in the last week that will take pages if I wrote all of them in this post, but there was an unforgettable experience of teaching the grade 8. That was when we had to teach them about my country's local story, Mangiring and Mona. The moment that we were showcasing the culture and  local color of Indonesia through literature was so remarkable in my heart. I felt honor to share the culture, customs, values, as well as the people of Indonesia.

The other moments that I like were when I took over the 10th grade students of Diamond and Gold and the 11th grade students, the senior high school. I could say that they were perhaps the most challenging classes yet the grades which I feel suit me the most. For the grade 10 students, they were quite critical and well-spoken in delivering their ideas, dare to have different opinion and be able to synthesize the lesson very well. I remember the topic was about an essay entitled War written by Voltaire. The students were given several questions that guided them to analyze the essay. Over all the ideas were good and I appreciated them for that. However, there was a moment that two group were arguing about one of the groups ideas which looked like they agreed to promote war. They tried to answer as well as tackling each other. The thing was actually, they had the same point and purpose but the way they delivered their opinion were from different perspectives.

As a teacher, I put myself as a facilitator for the students to have their own learning. I let my students to explore and observe the material that we had. The thing that I did was encourage the students to be more active and critical. One of my teaching mentors, Mrs. Jeiza Napone told me that the best way to have a great teaching and learning process was by implementing three kinds of interactions, teacher-student, student-student, and student-content. That is one of the great reminder that I will always hold into along with my carrier as a teacher.

Those are my experience of practice teaching for the past four weeks. I hope what I have shared in this blog will mean something to you my readers.
